CFSI pays tribute to Late Mr. K. N. T. Sastry, a renowned Indian film critic, turned film director, who received a number of national and international awards for his various films, documentaries and books.

Mr. K. N. T. Sastry was known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema, and few Kannada films. He has garnered seven National Film Awards. He was a jury member for many international film festivals. He served as chairman of critics Jury at National Film Awards and has served as a Jury Member for Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards. As a filmmaker, he strove to make films that had a striking balance between art and parallel cinema.

Working in various aspects of cinema, Mr. Sastry contributed in children’s films by directing ‘Shaanu – The Optimist’ produced by Children’s Film Society, India which acclaimed in various international film festivals and won ‘Best Kids Performance’ at San Diego International Kids’ Film Festival – 2017 in feature film category for Baby Jhanavi who played the lead role of Shaanu.

The film ‘Shaanu – The Optimist’ is about poignant story of a nine year old girl, who believes that when she predicts things, they are bound to happen. Submersed in her own world of beliefs and miracles, she enrolls as a Kho-Kho player in the school, whose talent is recognized and she marches ahead to participate in district level tournament. She is bound to hit a road-block there….

Other films directed by him include Surabhi, Kamli, Snehanveshana, The Aliens, Harvesting Baby Girls, Snehe Geethe, Sarasammana Samadhi and the highly acclaimed Thilaadanam, which played at 45 festivals, including Busan International Film Festival, and won seven international awards.

We would truly miss Mr. Sastry towards his immense contribution to film industry.
