The 15th International Children's Film Festival will open
in Hyderabad on November 14, Children's Day, with a repertoire
of 40 films. The festival will conclude on November 20 with
the awards ceremony.
Besides an international jury chaired by renowned short
film maker Mike Pandey, there will be an Asian Panorama jury
and a children's jury to judge films from the perspective
of the young. Around 300 children aged 10-16 will attend the
event from all over the country as state guests.
A large number of filmmakers from several countries including
Brazil, China, France and Iran are also expected to attend
the festival.
"Over 40 films including several highly acclaimed productions
will compete for the top award in the international competition
while another 20 will vie for awards in the Asian Panorama
section. The international jury also includes veteran filmmaker
V G Samant, New Zealand producer Mathew Horrocks, Andi Spark
of Griffith Film School in Brisbane (Australia), veteran journalist
and National award winner Vasiraju Prakasam and writer and
social worker Dr K V Krishna Kumari," said Nafisa Ali,
chairperson Children's Film Society, India (CFSI).
The children's jury will comprise of singer Bhavya Pandit,
child prodigy in mathematics Nischal Narayana and child artistes
T. Saikumar, Vishu Teja and Sruthakirthy. Saikumar had won
the 2005 National Film Award for Best Child Artiste.
The Asian Panorama jury is chaired by Bulgarian animator
and filmmaker Tsvetomira Niikolova. Poland's Izabela Wierzbinska,
who heads an International Animation Film Festival, actors
Mrinal Kulkarni and S. Rojaramani, and filmmaker Relangi Narasimha
Rao are the other members.
Held every alternate year, this internationally acclaimed
festival is organised by the Children's Film Society of India,
a media unit of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry,
in collaboration with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The films on show have been selected by a panel of experts
from over 300 entries from about 40 countries. |
