Ten-year old Sira’s parents make
a living by singing and dancing on the streets. Sira’s
father is a heart patient but he cannot afford the expensive
treatment. Sira dreams of owning a bicycle one day and
starts collecting money for it. Realizing that he would
never be able to do collect the adequate amount, he
resorts to ways of making quick money. One day, he unexpectedly
receives a large amount of money from a strange foreigner.
He returns home with happiness but finds that his father
has been hospitalised. Sira spends all his money to
save his father’s life, but in vain. Eventually,
young Sira takes up his father’s profession, which
he had earlier rejected.
SOMARATNE DISSANAYAKE studied science
in school and went on to study Medical Radiography at
the London University. In 1978, he migrated to Australia
to work as a medical practitioner. Simultaneously, he
completed his post-graduate studies in performing arts
from the NSW University. He later completed his M.A.
in direction from the Sydney University, following which
he gave up his medical career in Australia to pursue
his dream of making films in Sri Lanka. Winner of eight
international and national awards, his debut feature
film was Saroja (2000).

The greedy crow is fond of cheese,
soap, also shiny objects like door keys, buttons, coins
and jewels; his interest in these objects leads to a
number of problems, especially when he steals the precious
jewel belonging to the king.
ABDOLLAH ALIMORAD was born in 1957
in Tehran. After completing his studies in Natural Sciences,
he joined the Animation Course at KANOON. He received
training in puppet animation during a 2-month course
at the Puppet Animation Studio in Prague. Currently,
he works at KANOON as director, scriptwriter, animator,
puppet designer, set designer and cinematographer. Some
of his short & experimental puppet animation films
include The Parrot and the Grocer (1991), Jewel Mountain
(1994), Bahador (2000) etc.

The film depicts a sprout, which is
unhappy at being stuck to the ground. It wants to move
around and go ahead. But sadly its ambitions make it
fall to death. However, as death is not the end for
plants, it grows again. And this time, it is stronger
than ever before, thinking only about growing into a
beautiful and big tree.
FARKHONDEH TORABI was born in 1965
in Tehran. In 1983, she began her career as cinematographer
and animator. To her independent direction credit are
several films including Flight (1993), Azadeh and Health
is Happiness (1994), The Thirsty Crow (1996), The Rainbow
Fish (1998) Shangoul & Mangoul (2000) etc.

Xiao Qi, an imaginative ten-year old boy who has always
been fascinated with animals, lives with his Grandpa
in a place called “JiDi Marine World”. His
parents spend most of their time working in the Arctic.
So, Xiao Qi has spent most of his childhood alone but
surrounded by all sorts of wonderful marine creatures.
Luckily, he has never felt a moment of boredom nor loneliness.
But one night, he gets a letter from
his father informing him that because of incomplete
research work, he would not be able to join him on his
birthday. Young Xiao Qi is disappointed. But something
curious happened. A young dolphin named Qu Qi, who has
become a close companion of the boy, has begun to speak!
QIAN XIAOHONG was born in 1961. After
graduating from the Shandong Art College in 1987, he
joined a television station in Shandong as an art teacher.
He also produced and directed several television programmes.
Marine Friends is his debut feature film.

Bandu wants to be the best boxer but
since he cannot afford a gym, he practices at home with
a firm determination to achieve his goal. Incidentally,
he happens to see an advertisement from a film producer
who is looking for a new face for his film Boxer No.1.
It is a lucrative offer. Along with the neighbouring
paanwala (betel maker), who had shown him the advertisement,
Bandu goes for the audition. Sadly, the producer and
the heroine humiliate Bandu.
Later, on a school trip to a tribal
area, Bandu meets a tribal boy Dhondu and they become
friends. Bandu was quite amazed to see how tribal children
studied in an open school under a tree, without any
classroom. On his return, Bandu collects money so that
he could build a school for the tribal children who
had to study in adverse conditions.
RAJEEV MOHAN has made several documentaries
and ad films on various topics concerning life and culture,
social welfare, sanitation etc. His documentary film
Taveez had won the National Award for the best documentary
on family planning in 1994.

Vikram and Aditya find the stark beauty
of Ladakh breathtaking. They are accompanied by Meme
Chako and 10-year old Tsering, the cook’s assistant.
But the soothing atmosphere is shattered when a few
goons try to kidnap Tsering while Meme Chako has gone
away. Vikram and Aditya manage to save Tsering but the
goons are soon joined by their ringleader Akira and
the kids only manage to make an escape with the help
of another tourist couple, Andre and Eva. When Meme
Chako returns to the village, he is shocked to learn
that Tsering had been kidnapped once again. Everybody
is puzzled – why should somebody try to kidnap
a cook’s assistant?
VINOD GANATRA has been associated with
the Indian film and TV Industry since 1968 and has produced,
directed and edited numerous documentaries, newsreels,
teleserials and videos. He was an editor with Doordarshan
(Mumbai) for 11 years and also held the position of
Assistant Director of Information (Films) for the State
Government of Gujarat from 1983 to 1986. His film Heda
Hoda (The Blind Camel) won The Silver Elephant Award
in The Golden Elephant International Children’s
Film Festival (2003). It also won the Bronze Award at
the Cairo International Children Film Festival among
other laurels worldwide.

the key to a new world. The day when a caravan of travellers
from a distant land come into his world and bring with
them rain and lightning, magic and moments, image and
colour, shots and stories, sound and music! That's the
day when a film unit from Bombay comes to shoot in the
garden of his house. For the first time, Foto is confronted
with the magic of cinema. Foto meets his 'Magician',
who takes him on a roller coaster ride through the lanes
and alleys of Cinema. As Foto dips between his reality
and imagination, a score of characters bring into his
life new thrills, adventure, discovery, learning and
lots of magic! Where will this roller coaster ride end?
Or will it? Where does the magic culminate? Will the
two worlds of Foto - his reality and imagination - ever
coincide?
VIRENDRA SAINI graduated from the Film
and Television Institute of India with a diploma in
cinematography in 1976. He has been closely associated
with the New Cinema Movement in India, working for both
feature films and full-length documentaries with several
major directors including Mani Kaul, Saeed Mirza, Sai
Paranjpye, Kundan Shah, Vinod Chopra, Bhimsain et al.
In 1990 he won the National award for Best Cinematography
for the film, Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro. His documentary
Ayodhya 1993, which he made after the demolition of
the Babri Masjid, was screened in several film festivals.
His debut feature film as a director, Kabhi Pass Kabhi
Fail won the National Award for Best Children’s
Film.

AKKINENI KUTUMBA RAO was born in 1946
in India. As a writer, he has 5 novels, 50 short stories
and several film scripts to his credit. His directorial
ventures include Bhadram Koduko, which won the National
Award for Best Regional Film in 1991 and Thodu, Patha
Nagaramlo Pasivadu, which have all won State awards
in various categories. Besides films, he has also directed
many Telugu teleserials and a couple of telefilms for
Hyderabad Doordarshan as well as Manavi, a Hindi teleserial
for Doordarshan’s national network. His feature
film Gulabeelu (Roses, 2005) premiered at the 14th Golden
Elephant Film Festival in 2005.

An opportunist Brahmin believes that
he is justified in acquiring whatever he desires in
the name of God. One day, he forcibly takes control
of a goat that has lost her way in the forest. A gang
of rogues successfully fools him into believing that
it is not a goat but some sort of demon in disguise.
The Brahmin gets rid of the goat much to the delight
of the orphan boy to whom it legitimately belonged to.
Brahmin and the Goat is based on a story from the Panchatantra
Tales.
CHETAN SHARMA has been working in the
domain of animation film since the last nine years.
He has also worked as an Assistant Director for the
film Mahakapi, produced by the CFSI. Currently, he is
the Director of Anigmatic Special Effects Pvt. Ltd.
Brahmin and the Goat is his debut animation film.

Based on a folk tale from Nagaland,
this is a story about Nokpokliba, a magician who brings
justice to the people through his magic. Once upon a
time, there was an evil merchant who cheated the Naga
people for their cotton. He would transform his son
into a cow, and then trade the cow for their cotton
produce. So when the farmers returned home with their
cow, it would transform into a different animal and
run away. The farmers finally approach Nokpokliba for
help. Nokpokliba helps the farmers by countering the
merchant’s magic with his own.
MEREN IMCHEN completed his animation
film studies from the National Institute of Design,
Ahmedabad. He has done several animated promos for television
and has also worked on two illustration projects viz.
The Rooster and the Sun and Sudhershan Chimpanzee, a
comic strip.

Animated in an ancient and almost extinct
folk art form called “Sanjhi”, the film
narrates a story of a father who is in search of suitable
groom for his daughter.
Around the 17th Century, there was
a tradition to encourage unmarried girls to do Sanjhi
paintings in order to obtain a suitable groom. Once
the paintings were done, they were set free in the river
for universal blessings. It was considered a ritual
worship and was originally practiced as one of the traditional
methods of creative visualization to fulfil one’s
wishes.
The Perfect Match is based on a story from the Panchatantra
Tales.
DHVANI DESAI has been associated with
the craft of animation and special effects since the
last 16 years. She has worked on the animation and special
effects of many commercials and short films. She has
also created cartoon / animated titles for several feature
films produced by the National Film Development Corporation
among others.

Honeymoon

A story about Yangfei, an urban teenager
who refuses to accept his stepmother after she marries
his workaholic surgeon father. To escape from the unhappy
reality, Yangfei decides to run away from home and search
for his cyber girlfriend on his own. But little did
he know that the outside world was replete with danger
and deceit. After his stepmother found him thousands
of miles away from home, they start an interesting journey
of discovery and motherly love. By the Yellow River,
Yangfei discovers feelings of genuine love and joy in
the local folks and the village kids. Finally, Yangfei’s
journey reunites him with his family again.
CHEN JUN graduated from the Beijing
Film Academy, majoring in photography. In 1990, she
was the cinematographer for the film The War Meridian,
which won the Gold Chicken Prize. In 2000, she directed
the film Can’t Be Without You, which won the Special
Education Prize at the Beijing University Student Film
Festival; it was also invited to the Cannes International
Film Festival.

DANA BLANKSTEIN was born in Switzerland
in 1981 and grew up in Tel-Aviv, Israel. She began her
studies at the Sam Spiegel Film & TV School, Jerusalem
in 2003. During her second year of studies, she was
the Production Manager for the short film Don Quixote
in Jerusalem by Dani Rosenberg, which received a special
mention in the Berlinale Short Competition, 2005. During
2005-06, Dana was awarded the America-Israel Cultural
Foundation scholarship for emerging directors. She is
currently working as an assistant director in Israeli
feature films. Camping is her third-year film.

Bhaurao is different from his peer
group. A fatherless child, he is tough, naughty and
impish. He fears none except the village head. One day,
when Bhaurao stones his brutish teacher, Bhobdya, he
is expelled from school. Now happily out of school,
he lends a helping hand to his mother and sister in
the fields. His life story is about to become synonymous
with that of thousands of illiterate children in India.
But the arrival of a compassionate teacher changes Bhaurao’s
fate. The unconventional teacher understands the child
in Bhaurao and his potential. Bhaurao goes on to become
a senior officer in the Education Department of the
Maharashtra Government. It is a victory of the teacher
as well as the child, as well as that of his mother
and sister.
The 15th Golden Elephant screening

RISHI DESHPANDE has been making films
for over a decade. He commenced his filmmaking career

Xiao Le, a boy who lives in the city,
goes to his grandfather’s country home for a summer
holiday. Soon after he arrives, weird things happen
one after another: there seems to be a monster in the
river as ducks are being killed and Xiao Mao, a boy
in the village, is bitten while swimming. Xiao Le’s
grandfather suspects it is the Yangtze crocodile behind
all this. Asi, an animal smuggler from the city, overhears
the story about the crocodiles from the villagers. He
convinces Rong and Chang Gen, Xiao Mao’s father,
to hunt the crocodiles for him. To protect the crocodiles,
Xiao Le convinces the other boys and girls in the village
to wage a 'war' against the animal smugglers!
LU JIANGUANG is a member of the Chinese
Film Director Association and has written and directed
over 300 television programmes for children, some of
which have won National Awards in China. His film Close
Touch to Crocodile (2005) won the Favourite Film award
at the 7th International Children’s Film Festival
of China. As a writer, he has several publications of
poetry and novels to his credit.

Six year old Minnu is unaware of her
past. She is supported in her studies by a missionary
school but she is treated very differently from others.
In the film she is shown fighting an inner trauma of
a child who is forced to lead an isolated life. The
absence of her parents never hindered the charm on her
face. But she is curious about the cause of her loneliness.
I am famous highlights the plight of
millions of children who become a part of their parents’
dreadful past.
HANUMANTHA RAO RAGHAVAPUDI is a qualified
MCA graduate. He acquired hands on experience in filmmaking
while working with the national award winning director
Chandrasekhar Yeleti.. I Am Famous is his debut short
film as writer-director. Recently, he has also directed
television commercials on social awareness.

The feeling of patriotism is brought to life vividly
through a little boy, who in all his innocence starts
a conversation with someone whose significance is greater
than his youthful understanding. The respect and love
that the little boy has for this figure slowly unfolds
as he declares a promise that when he comes of age,
he will honour, protect and serve the nation. The film
ends with the boy saluting this figure, revealing it
to be the Indian flag.
COBURN MACHADO has been associated with the advertising
world since 1995, following which he joined a film production
house to work on special effects and design. Later,
he started to direct advertising films while also working
as an assistant director. He still continues to produce
and direct advertising films for clients in India and
overseas.
