Director's Biography
Ramu Kariat
Born in Trichur District, Ramu Kariat,
an only son, lost his father when he was only twelve.
He forsook formal studies, get ting immersed in social
issues and marxist politics. He look to writing fiction
and poetry. His first film break came in 1952 as assistant
director to PRS Pillai in the making of the feature
film "Thirumala", A well-to-neighbor. Pareekutly,
launched Kariat by financing his debut in 1954 with
the film "Neelakunji" which he co-directed
with P Bhaskaran. This film follow in collecting many
honors. The crowing glory of Kariat's career was in
directly the renowned film "Cinemeen" (The
Shrimp) in 1965, which won the President's Gold Medal
and inter national acclaim.

Synopsis
Kuttan, the pet goat of ten-year-old Ammu infuriates
her father Appu is a farmer and Kuttan has a way of
nibbling at every thing in Appu's fields. When kuttan
chews up a vegetable patch, Appu beats Ammu for not
disciplining her pet and gives the errant goat to
the landlord. Relenting, Appu gives Ammu a gold chain.
Ammu rushes to the landlord pleading for the return
of her goat. He demands forty rupees in exchange.
She remembers the gold chain and offers it in place
of money. Deeply touched, the landlord to learn from
Ammu the meaning of being kind to animals.
