A name that has left an indelible

Jagirdas was both an accomplished actor and director.
His directorial debut came in 1938 with the historical
Umaji Naik. He swifty made a name for him self in
the early forties when films of social concern were
being promulgated by Prabhat Studio. His association
with Prabhat Studios resulted in the successful
Ramshastri (1942) which Jagirdas directed, and V.Shantaram's
Padosi (1941) in which Jagirdas gave a superb performance
in a leading role. When Atre Studios was formed,
Jagirdas directed their first feature,Payachi Dasi,
based on a women's relationship with her mother-in-low
which was a run away hit. Jagirdas was then asked
to direct their second film Vasantsena (1942), the
production cost of which became a problem. His Marathi
